Lahore: The Punjab government has launched the Chief Minister’s Green Tractor Scheme to support the agriculture sector.
Provincial Minister for Agriculture and Livestock, Syed Ashiq Hussain Kirmani, announced that PKR 30 billion has been allocated for this initiative, which aims to provide affordable tractors to small-scale farmers. During a meeting at Agriculture House with representatives from the tractor industry, Kirmani emphasized that this is the first time such a significant subsidy has been offered to farmers. Under the scheme, farmers with 1 to 50 acres of land will be eligible to purchase tractors ranging from 50 to 85 horsepower, customized to their needs, with a substantial subsidy per unit.
The initiative aligns with the Chief Minister’s vision of strengthening the agriculture sector and supporting the local tractor manufacturing industry. Kirmani also encouraged local manufacturers to offer an additional 10 to 15 percent discount on each tractor to further reduce costs for farmers.
Punjab’s Secretary of Agriculture, Iftikhar Ali Sahoo, noted that the scheme would benefit both farmers and the local tractor industry. The CEO of Millat Tractors, Raheel Asghar, assured the industry’s support and committed to maintaining fixed prices, even in the event of federal tax increases. Additionally, the warranty period for the tractors will be extended to provide farmers with added peace of mind.
This initiative is expected to boost both the agricultural and manufacturing sectors by offering affordable, high-quality equipment to farmers while promoting confidence in locally produced products.
