Pakistan is Facing Huge Internet disruptions, Affecting Freelancers and IT Industry

Pakistan has been facing major internet disruptions for almost a week, leading to slow connection speeds and limited functionality on various apps.

The Pakistan Software Houses Association (P@SHA) has warned that the country’s economy could lose up to $300 million due to internet disruptions caused by the implementation of a national firewall. In a press release issued on Thursday, P@SHA expressed concerns over the government’s move to monitor and regulate content and social media platforms through this firewall. Although the government denies using the firewall for censorship, the impacts have already been felt

Ali Ihsan, the senior vice chairman of P@SHA, highlighted that the firewall has led to prolonged internet disconnections and erratic performance of virtual private networks (VPNs), posing a severe threat to business operations. He described the disruptions as more than just inconveniences, labeling them as a direct and aggressive threat to the viability of the industry. He also estimated the financial losses to be around $300 million, which is a very very huge loss for the IT industry and country as well.

These connectivity problems have significantly affected platforms like Fiverr, where many Pakistani freelancers have marked their gigs as “unavailable” due to the disruptions. In response, Fiverr has temporarily adjusted its policies to protect freelancers from receiving negative ratings because of delays caused by these connectivity issues.

The ongoing disruptions have caused much frustration among users, who are expressing their dissatisfaction with the government and urging Fiverr to address the situation. Many people are also using VPNs to bypass the internet issues and access platforms, especially given the current ban on X (formerly known as Twitter).

As the connectivity problems continue, there are growing calls for the swift restoration of reliable internet services across Pakistan to alleviate the ongAll Postsoing challenges.

Shortly, internet connectivity problems have seriously damaged the big brands , huge businesses and IT industry of our country Pakistan. This situation is worsening day by day. Business owners are going to shift their business abroad which can lead to more employment in Pakistan. Government officials and decision making authorities are showing no concern on this national issue.
