Pakistan plans to launch its first AI policy by early 2025. The focus is on enhancing cybersecurity and boosting the digital economy. The policy aims to create a “Digital Pakistan” by using AI for real-time detection and response to cyber threats. This will help prevent data breaches and protect sensitive information.
Syed Junaid Imam from the Ministry of IT shared details at the ‘Cyber Threat Intelligence 2024’ conference. He stated the policy would be ready in a few months, emphasizing its focus on cybersecurity.
The digital infrastructure and AI policy aim to place Pakistan in the top 10-15 of the Global Cybersecurity Index. Pakistan recently advanced to the top 40 in the rankings.
The government is also setting up CERTs for sectors like telecom, banking, and education. Collaboration between industry, academia, and government is key. The goal is to secure the digital economy and build a digitally advanced society.
