Lahore: Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif is set to launch the Kissan Card activation on October 15, 2024, enabling registered farmers to access bank loans for purchasing sowing inputs. This a great step towards the betterment of agriculture industry.
According to the Punjab Agriculture Department, the registration for the Kissan Card has surpassed expectations, with 1.25 million farmers enrolled, exceeding the original target of 1 million. Of these, over 170,000 farmers have been verified by the Bank of Punjab, and their cards will be officially activated during a special ceremony in Toba Tek Singh on October 25, 2024. To facilitate farmers in utilizing their cards, the government has established 136 centers at the Tehsil level across Punjab, ensuring easy access to sowing inputs.
In preparation for the launch, Punjab Agriculture and Livestock Minister Syed Ashiq Hussain Kirmani chaired a high-level meeting in Toba Tek Singh. Attendees included Member National Assembly Chaudhry Junaid Anwar, Parliamentary Secretary for Agriculture Osama Khan Leghari, Secretary of Agriculture Punjab Iftikhar Ali Sahu, Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Naeem Sindhu, and DPO Ibadat Nisar.
Minister Kirmani reiterated the Chief Minister’s strong dedication to advancing the agriculture sector. He also highlighted the introduction of the Chief Minister Punjab Green Tractor Scheme, which will provide a subsidy of 10 lakh rupees per tractor to promote agricultural mechanization.
Additionally, model agricultural malls are being developed throughout the province to provide farmers with world-class facilities. The minister also announced the Agricultural Graduates Internship Programme, the first of its kind in Pakistan, offering 1,000 agricultural graduates a monthly stipend of 60,000 rupees to help support their careers in the field.
Later, Minister Kirmani visited the Toba Tek Singh Sports Stadium to review preparations for the Kissan Card activation ceremony, ensuring everything is ready for this important event.
