Islamabad: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has announced that Pakistan will sign agreements worth USD 2 billion with a visiting Saudi delegation, according to a recent report from October 8.
Led by Minister for Investment Khalid Bin Abdulaziz Al-Falih, the Saudi delegation will visit from October 9-11, aiming to strengthen economic relations between the two countries. This visit is taking place just before the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit, scheduled for October 15-16.
The delegation, which includes both government officials and private sector representatives, will focus on boosting economic cooperation through these agreements.
Additionally, the federal cabinet has ratified several key decisions, including providing subsidies to the fishing industry and designating Gwadar and Shanghai Ports as sister ports. Other agreements involve initiating political consultations with Rwanda and Ghana, as well as granting judicial authority to magistrates in Gwadar and Hub for handling narcotics-related cases.
The Ministry of IT and Telecom also reported an improvement in Pakistan’s ranking in the UN’s E-Government Development Index (EGDI), with a 14-position increase. The prime minister has called for further progress, with a review to take place in two weeks.
