The Federal Government has approved a PKR 50 billion budget for Sindh’s emergency housing project aimed at helping communities affected by recent floods, according to recent reports.
This funding, finalized during a recent Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) meeting, is part of the Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP). It exceeds the PKR 30 billion initially proposed by the Ministry of Planning, Development, and Special Initiatives for the 2024-25 fiscal year.
The housing project, which received approval from the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) in June, is estimated to cost PKR 296 billion in total. ECNEC has suggested a phased funding plan, including PKR 30 billion for the current fiscal year and another PKR 20 billion for 2025-26.
The PKR 30 billion assigned for 2024-25 is included under Demand No. 120 in the Ministry of Planning’s development budget and is ready for transfer. With ECC’s approval, the Finance Division is now permitted to release these funds to the Sindh government to aid in urgent flood relief efforts and enhance other PSDP-supported provincial projects.
