Karachi: The Sindh Transmission & Dispatch Company (STDC) and GO Energy Private Limited have signed an agreement to develop a 500-megawatt floating solar project at Keenjhar Lake.
The signing MOU ceremony was attended by Sindh Minister for Energy Nasir Hussain Shah, Secretary Energy Musaddiq Ali Khan, STDC CEO Saleem Shaikh, GO Energy CEO Ammar Ali, and officials from K-Electric. This ambitious 500MW project, poised to be one of the largest floating solar installations in the world, will utilize advanced solar panels specifically designed for Keenjhar Lake.
The project includes the installation of a 220-kilowatt transmission line to K-Electric’s Dhabeji grid station in Karachi. Letters of intent have already been issued by both K-Electric and the energy department. Secretary Energy Musaddiq Ahmad Khan highlighted the ongoing initiatives to provide affordable electricity, including the establishment of mini-grid stations at the district level. The floating solar plant is expected to generate electricity at Rs 15 per unit, making it a cost-effective energy solution.
