Lahore to implement artificial rain for smog reduction at 350 million rupees

The government is planning to implement artificial rain, known as cloud seeding, to reduce the worsening smog in the city. This large-scale project is estimated to cost around 350 million rupees, with both the Meteorological and Environmental Departments taking important roles in its execution.

Cloud seeding is a weather modification method aimed at triggering rainfall by introducing certain substances into clouds. These particles help raindrops form, and the process can be carried out using aircraft, drones, or ground-based techniques. The goal is to encourage rainfall in areas suffering from high pollution or drought conditions.

This project follows a similar experiment conducted by the caretaker government last year, which also aimed to address air quality concerns. Given the alarming pollution levels in Lahore, officials are considering school holidays to protect children from the harmful effects of the smog.

Meteorological Department experts are carefully observing weather patterns to determine the best time for the cloud seeding operation. Authorities are hopeful that the artificial rain will not only clear the air but also provide much-needed relief to Lahore’s residents, who have been dealing with hazardous pollution levels.

With smog continuing to disrupt daily life in Lahore, officials are optimistic that this innovative solution will lead to a cleaner and safer environment for the city.
