ISLAMABAD: The federal government of Pakistan has made an important change to passport rules to make things easier for citizens. Now, anyone can apply for their passport from any city in the country, regardless of the address on their Computerized National Identity Card (CNIC). This change aims to help people who have been struggling to access passport services.
Mustafa Jamal Qazi, the head of the Directorate General of Immigration and Passports, announced that a notification about these new rules has been sent to passport offices across the country. With these amendments, applications will no longer be rejected just because the address on a person’s CNIC doesn’t match the location where they apply for their passport.
This change comes after the government recognized ongoing complaints about delays in getting passports. In August, Law and Justice Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar informed the National Assembly that the government is working on solutions to address these delays, including installing new machinery and software. He is hopeful that these improvements will speed up the passport issuance process and help clear the backlog of applications.
With the new system, the daily capacity for issuing passports is expected to rise from 26,000 to 60,000. This means it will be much easier for people across the country to obtain this important document. Overall, these amendments are part of the government’s efforts to improve public services and make travel more convenient for Pakistani citizens.
